The Brief

Ahead of the historic Boomers vs USA games at Marvel Stadium, Visit Victoria and Basketball Australia engaged Juddy Roller to create a stadium-scale mural and painted court that celebrated Australia’s basketball heritage and built hype for the event series. The activation transformed the Gate 7 precinct into a fan magnet and media backdrop.

The Approach

  • Create an 18-metre mural featuring basketball icons Ben Simmons, Andrew Bogut, Lauren Jackson, Liz Cambage & Andrew Gaze.

  • Custom-painted basketball court, transforming the area into a playable fan zone and media backdrop.

  • Full end-to-end production: creative direction, artist management, safety and compliance, and stadium coordination.

  • Unveiled with star athletes in February 2019, just before tip-off of the Boomers vs USA games.

The Outcome

  • Transformed section of Marvel Stadium into an interactive fan zone destination for fans, selfies, and press coverage.

  • Became part of the Boomers vs USA spectacle, which drew 52,079 fans — the largest crowd in Australian basketball history.

  • Amplified across Visit Victoria, Basketball Australia, and Marvel Stadium channels, reinforcing Melbourne as the basketball capital of Australia..
